Preparing Future Campus Pastors

spaceballspaceball1959965307_20b2a2ba9a_tIf you follow BAF you know that the Multi Site Ministry has been moving fast around here. As we’ve moved forward one of the things that has become clear is that we have to begin focusing on the future, and that means putting in place a system that will begin preparing future leaders now, so they’ll be ready when its time to start a new BAF multi site campus. This is critical because one of the main things we’ve learned over the last 18 months is that DNA transfer is tough. My experience tells me were better off sending out our DNA to a campus, than hoping it will be caught by someone whose already there. However, that is not something that is completely set in stone because every situation is different, but we do feel like sending DNA, if possible, is a good thing.

Realizing that has set us on a path to begin preparing leaders to start new campuses long before we have a place to send them. Pastor Jason Curlee and I are working on a leadership development program that I am really excited about. I will be sharing our ideas with you this week. Please understand they are ideas, and we reserve the right to come back later and say they didn’t work :) Here are two things we are doing that we think will be critical to to campus pastor leadership developement.

1. We will start having potential campus pastors attend our MS staff meetings when they can. No better place to begin absorbing BAF Multi Site DNA than in a staff meeting with all the CP’s and MS Staff!

2. We are having campus pastors start making themselves unavailable more often on weekends so there is a spot for potential CP’s to step in and lead. If the CP is not around, it forces the CP in training to deal with all the issues of the day on their own. This is usually harder for the CP than it is for the CP in training :) Could this be problematic, maybe, but we feel like the positives far outweigh the negatives, and were also not talking about leaving a campus to someone until they’ve been there plenty of times with the CP!

I’ll be sharing more of our ideas as we put this together, and as with everything we do, we’ll make it available to anyone who wants it when it’s done.

I hope that plenty of leaders step up for this kind of mentoring. It is pretty intensive and does require some sacrifice. However we are building God’s kingdom aren’t we? The enemy is giving everything he has to stop us from advancing. This is a WAR!!! It isn’t going to be easy, but I’m proud to be part of the fight.
I’ll try to get more active on my blog in order to show the progress from this side of the fence.
